JULIA MAXINE CANNON BURNS Born August 6, 1914 in Topeka, Kansas, passed away September 21. She was the beloved mother of Patricia Garland of Mission Viejo and Dr. William Burns of Grass Valley, grandm other of Dylan and Brendan Garland, and great-grandmother of Emma and David Garland. Maxine graduated from the University of Utah in 1935 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She worked for Burroughs in San Francisco, where she met her husband, Richard C. Burns, originally of Duluth, Minnesota. They were married nearly sixty years when he passed away in 1998. Maxine was a devoted member of Bel-Air Presbyterian Church from 1965 until 2000, and was active in the Forest Home Women’s Auxiliary, as well as PEO. A memorial service will be held at Freedom Village in Lake Forest, October 4, at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills. Maxine faced many health challenges in her later years, but she never lost her sweet and gentle nature. She will be greatly missed.
