Betty E. Scoggins
Betty E. Scoggins, 91, passed away at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Martinez on Nov. 21, 2009., Betty was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on May 28, 1918, to George and Betty Sapp. She lived in Florida until she entered the Women’s Army Corps in 1943. She came to California after being discharged and married Elwood Scoggins in 1946. They lived in Vallejo for 15 years. In 1965 they moved to Napa and she lived there until 1978, when she returned to Florida. She lived in Florida until 2001 when she returned to California and lived in Vacaville. She returned to Napa in 2004 to be near her son, Craig., Betty was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Napa, the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association in Winter Haven, Florida, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Napa Valley Genealogical Society., She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood, in 1975., She is survived by her son, Craig E. Scoggins of Napa; daughter, Pamela L. Scoggins of San Rafael; and brother, A. Edwin Sapp of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie Laplant of Vacaville and Jason C. Scoggins of San Francisco. Her great-grandchildren are Travis, Rachel, Bethany and Caleb., Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at Napa Valley Baptist Church, 2303 Trower Ave. Pastor Hank Hobbs will officiate. Private burial will be on Monday at Tulocay Cemetery., Services are under the direction of Claffey and Rota Funeral Home., Condolences to the family may be sent to www.claffeyandrota.com.

SAN JACINTO PIONEER DESCENDENT PASSES BEVERLY LOIS LAMB-GARDNER Passed away November 23, 2009. Her great grandfather was Elijah Lamb who homesteaded the Lamb’s Canyon in the mid 1880’s. She was predeceased by her parents James and Nellie Lamb and sister Audrey Eppler. Beverly was born October 7th, 1937 in San Jacinto and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1955. She also graduated from California Baptist College and obtained her Master’s Degree from Claremont College. Her career was in accounting and bookkeeping. She was an active member of the Hemet Sunrise Rotary Club and Member of the San Jacinto First Southern Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, James Gardner of Desert Hot Springs, his wife Michelle, a daughter Cathy Jabbs of Bremerton, WA and a sister, Mary Flake-Green and her husband Robert Green of Menifee. She also leaves grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by a loving family and numerous friends and clients. Memorial on Monday, Nov. 30, 2Pm at San Jacinto First Baptist Church, 841 E. Evans, San Jacinto.

Caroline J. Brown, July 26, 1917 - November 20, 2009, Caroline J. Brown, 92 of Stockton, passed away on November 20, 2009 in a local care facility. Born on July 26, 1917 in Stockton, she graduated from Stockton High School and attended Humphrey’s College. She was a bookkeeper in the produce shipping field with her husband for 40 years. A member of Central United Methodist Church, Philomathean Club, Haggin Museum Auxilary, Scottish Rite Ladies Association, Ladies Auxilary to California Pioneers, San Joaquin Historical Society and Pacific Tiger Athletic Association., Her husband Morton (Mort) Brown preceded her in death. Caroline is survived by her children; Rick M. (Bonnie) Brown of Stockton and Carol A. Glass of Visalia. Grandmother of Christine (Jason) Palmer, Carrie (Chris) Johnson, Kimberly (Beau) Babka, Edward (Lisa) Glass, David (Shari) Glass and Melinda (Sam) Kyllo. Great grandmother of 23., A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. in St. Catherine’s Chapel at O’Connor Woods. Rev Bill Johnson officiating. Private committal Sunday morning in Cherokee Memorial Park. Max Carroll assisting the family. Memorial contributions to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204 are preferred.

RICE, CELIA Celia Rice, age 91, passed away on November 23, 2009. She was preceded in death by her son Ronald Hansen. She is survived by her husband, Loyd; daughter, Marcia Didier; step-daughters, Linda Lee, Harriette Henderson and Mary Ely; step-sons, Thomas Trask, and Skip Rice; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. MILLER Jr., CHARLES WILLIAM Charlie passed away on November 4, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in the loving presence of family and VA staff. Born on February 20, 1952, in Charlotte, No. Carolina. A graduate of Torrance H.S., where he was an exceptional athlete. He married the love of his life, Carla Ridenour, before joining the Army. They were blessed with one son, Matthew. My brother left this earth a richer soul than he arrived. He loved many and was in turn very beloved by those whose paths he crossed. He is survived by his son, sister, brother, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and other extended family. A Visitation/Remembrance will be held on Friday, November 27th, 4-8 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Encinitas Chapel, 340 Melrose Avenue, Encinitas. Memorial Service will be held at Self Realization Fellowship Temple, 939 2nd Street, Encinitas, at 3 p.m., on Saturday, November 28th. His ashes will be interred with his parents at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on December 3rd.
