DON BRUBAKER Sr.
DON BRUBAKER, SR. Don Brubaker, Sr., 88, of Ventura, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2009 after a two year battle of leukemia. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on November 29, 1921 to Clayton and Anna Brubaker. He was preceded in death by his son Douglas in 2000 and his wife of 62 years Evelyn in April of 2009. Don graduated from Los Angeles H igh School in 1939 and entered UCLA where he joined the Army Reserves. He was also a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He volunteered for duty in World War II and qualified to attend the U.S. Army Foreign Language School in Michigan. It was here that he met his future wife. He was assigned overseas as a 1st lieutenant with the Judge Advocacy Headquarters 8th Army where he served as a prisoner of war interrogation officer and translator. Fluent in Japanese, he was stationed in both the Philippines and Japa n. Don returned to marry Evelyn and they settled in the San Fernando Valley to start their family. After a variety of employment opportunities, Don completed his college studies at San Fernando Valley State College (now California State University, Northridge) and became an elementary school teacher in Woodland Hills, CA (Los Angeles Unified School District). While living in Woodland Hills, he was active in the YMCA and the Woodland Hills Community Church. He retired in 1974 to Ventura and became active in many civic and educational groups: Grand Jury, Easter Seals, and the Learning Disabilities Association. He also tutored numerous students and worked in both the Oxnard and Ventura school districts. Don enjoyed his friends and family and quietly cheered for any team playing USC! He is survived by his sister, Grace Brubaker; his daughter, Jan Cheslock (Glen); and sons, Don, Jr. (Sharon) and David (Karen). He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Matthew, Victoria, Danielle, and Donald III. His family is thankful for of all those who cared for Don until his passing. He was always looking to give of himself while asking little in return. In lieu of flowers, his family requests a donation of time or treasure in his memory to a charity of your choice. DOROTHY BRAILEY SEXTON*
SEXTON, DOROTHY BRAILEY Dorothy Brailey Sexton passed away on December 19, 2009. Born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 17, 1913. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 and half years, E. Ray Sexton, in 1998, her mother and father, A. James and Louise Brailey, three sisters and two brothers. She lived in San Diego, California from 1956 to 2001 and then with her daughter in Camarillo, California. Dorothy was active in San Diego with the Mariners at Fletcher Hills Church, Eagles Lodge and other organizations. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Kaiser of Cam-arillo, California and son Ray Chandler, and daughter-in-law Valerie Chandler, grand-daughters Katherine and Kristin Chandler of San Diego, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held in Omaha at Kremer Mortuary on December 29th, with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to either the San Diego Hospice or to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses of Ventura, California, because of the wonderful care they provide the last three months of her life.

Dean Piche, 76, of Vacaville, passed away on Friday morning, Dec. 11, in Vacaville., He was born on Oct. 16, 1933, in Mahnomen, Minn., Dean attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. He was a member of The Concordia College Choir., Dean was a school counselor with Travis Unified School District. Later, he became a financial adviser., After cremation by McCune Garden Chapel, Dean’s cremains will be placed in the plot next to his parents in The Riverside Cemetery in Mahnomen, Minn., Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel, 448-6546.,

Duane Allen Klein
Peacefully passed away December 17, 2009 in Henderson, NV, at the age of 67. Born in Merced, CA on August 9, 1942. He was the son of the late Agnes (Logan) and Darrell Klein. Duane graduated from Atwater High School in 1960 and attended Modesto Junior College. Married in 1964 to Melvetta Blancet, Duane was the father to five daughters: Lori (Rich) Kauper of Henderson, NV; Debra “Lynn” Klein of Petaluma; Kim (Rick) Crinklaw of Queen Creek, AZ; the late Kari Klein; and Maya Klein of Henderson, NV. Duane leaves five grandchildren: Justin, Jessica and Stephanie Rankin, and Austin and Madison Crinklaw. He also leaves his beloved cats, Flower and Mickey. Duane started his 43 year career in the telecommunications industry with Pacific Telephone in Sunnyvale, CA. During his career he worked on the development of the first digital telephone switch and was also one of the pioneers in distance learning. One of Duane’s passions was traveling and he was proud to say he had visited all 50 states, along with Guam, Mexico and Canada. In 2003 he married Bernice Rosenbalm. Upon their marriage Duane became the step father to her two children. The family would like to express their gratitude to the care Duane received at St. Rose Sienna ICU/Coronary Department and a special thank you to Dr. Khoi Dao, who was not only Duane’s Oncologist, but his friend. Although no immediate services are planned a celebration of Duane’s life will be held in the near future. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to the International Myeloma Foundation or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We will miss you Dad!
