Dewitt T. Dillard
DEWITT T. DILLARD A 45 year resident of Highland, passed away February 16, 2010, at the age of 85. Dewitt was born in Big Springs, Texas, on December 20, 1924. He was the owner of Lincoln Construction for over 47 years. He is survived by his wife, Loyce; his son, Ben; and daughters, Patricia and Donna; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ann. Services will be Monday, March 1, 2010, at Family Funeral Chapel in Rialto at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.

HEMET DOROTHY FLORENCE SCHNEIDER-DRIESLER Age 80, passed away on February 22, 2010 in Hemet, California. She was born December 9, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack John Schneider; brother Robert Hill; parents Milton and Ida Hill. Dorothy is survived by her husband Chuck Driesler; son Michael and Susie Schneider; daughter Kathy and David Morris; sister Patricia Olmstead; grandchildren Charleen Schneider, Alison Cox, Jonathan Schneider; great-grandchild Trenton Cox. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 2nd at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Riverside National Cemetery.

Edmund Gugel
Edmund W. Gugel On Monday, February 22nd, 2010, Ed passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 66 at his home in Ukiah. Ed was born in San Francisco and moved to Sonoma County in 1980. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Geri Gugel, of 48 years and five children, Colleen (Bob) Oller, Deann (Rick) Hayes, Ed (Julie) Gugel, Maureen Bufton and Tommy (Braiden) Gugel. Ed is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and two sisters, Arleen (Bob) and Florence. Ed was in the electrical industry for 40 years and retired from the IBEW just eight years ago. In addition to his many indescribable accomplishments he was kind, generous, humorous and always entertaining. He was passionate about spending time with his family, fishing, camping, gardening, working on his house and enjoying retirement. Ed was an amazing man and truly one of a kind. We can’t imagine life without him, but thankful for all of the wonderful memories and beautiful home he built for his family’s pleasure for many generations to come. Friends and family are invited for a celebration of his life on March 4th, 2010 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 8400 Old Redwood Highway, Windsor.

Edward (Eddie) Colton
EDWARD (EDDIE) COLTON at 61, born February 24, 1949 in Van Nuys, CA passed away on February 24, 2010 at home after a brief battle with cancer. In July 1967 he married his high school sweetheart Sandra Mc Allister and made their home in the Ontario/Upland area for 43 years. They had 2 loving daughters together. He leaves behind Sandy and daughters, Tami and Amy Colton and many family members. Eddie will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends. Educated at Northeastern University and University of Southern California with masters’ degrees in mathematics and business. Employed as an economist by the United States government. The family expresses appreciation to the staff at Salem Lutheran Care Center and Kaiser Hospice in Oakland. Service to be held on Monday, March 1 at 10AM at the Home of Eternity Cemetery Chapel with burial at Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, CA. Eric Frank Osborne
14064 OSBORNE-Eric Frank, was born April 13, 1965 in Glendale, California & died February 18, 2010 in C ovina, California. He is survived by his mother Dolores (LaBass) Osborne, his father Arthur H. Osborne, M.D., his three brothers; Vic Osborne, M.D., his wife Dena, Troy Osborne, D.V.M. and Kyle Osborne, his wife Tianna, four nephews; Jared, Tyler, Barrett and Elias, two nieces; Olivia & Rhiannon & his grandmother Nellie Seigle. In 1982 and 1983, Eric was a state wrestling champion from South Hills High School. Both years, he was named a high school All-American. In 1983, he was named to the National High Sc hool Dream Team. Wrestling for Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, he placed 4th in the NCAA finals in 1988 & was named an All-American. He taught English, coached wrestling & academic decathlon in the El Monte School District in the 90’s. He was also assistant wrestling coach at Mt. Sac for 8 years. Eric was a voracious reader, avid Laker fan, ecologist & accomplished bread maker. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 7, 2:30pm at the Adoniram Judson Memorial Baptist Church, on the corner of Cienega & Gle ndora in Covina.

Ernest L. Viola At rest February 24, 2010. Dearly beloved husband of Corazon Viola. Ernest was preceded in death by his first wife Mary A. Viola. He was the loving father of Ken (Anita) Viola and the late Ernest M. Viola Jr. and Thomas G. Viola. Cherished Grandfather of Jeannine, Erika, Natalie and Dominic Viola. Dear cousin of Josephine Viola. Ernest was a San Francisco native. He was the proud owner of Home Roofing & Siding and also worked for ELV Bingo Supplies. Ernest successfully ran Corpus Christi Friday night Bingos for over twenty years. He was past Commander of the Mariposa Boat Club and raced outboard powerboats throughout California in Poopsies/Pop C-25, leaving many in his wake. Ernest was also a private first class in the U.S. Coast Guard serving in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Friends may visit after 4pm Sunday and are invited to attend the Vigil Services also on Sunday at 7pm and the Funeral Liturgy on Monday at 11:00am from the chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission St., SF. Eugene Sandberg
Dr. Eugene Carl Sandberg A long time resident of Palo Alto and Ladera passed away in Foster City on February 13th, he was 86. Eugene was born to Carl and Hazel Sandberg of Ashtabula Ohio on January 4th 1924. A firm believer in education Eugene attended Ohio State, University or Oregon, and UC Berkeley from 1942-1945 where he earned his Bachelor of Science. He then went on to get his doctorate from UC Berkeley and the University of San Francisco finishing in 1948. He did a one-year internship in San Francisco before going to Vanderbilt to do his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1951. Eugene left to serve his country in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 where he was stationed at the United States Army Hospital in Honshu Japan. After returning from the war he went back to Vanderbilt to finish his residency training and completed in 1955. Eugene’s medical career was at Stanford University starting in 1955 and retiring in 1987. During that time he served as an Instructor, Associate professor and Chairman in addition to his medical duties at the hospital. From 1987 till his death he was acting as an Associate Professor Emeritus. Eugene was a man with a long list of academic and medical achievements. His many talents, interests and hobbies were remarkable. His energy was endless and his enthusiasm for life, boundless. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. One of Gene’s proudest moments was receiving the honor as an Inductee to the Space Technology Hall of Fame, by the United States Space Foundation and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He was part of the NASA Ames Human Research Institutional review board from 1996 until death. Eugene had a deep love for the written word and spent his lifetime writing books, articles and making many literary contributions. He loved reading so much that he was a regular volunteer for the reading for the blind organization. He also loved playing the banjo and was an active participant and member of both the Happy Time Banjo’s and The Peninsula Bay Banjo Band. He looked forward to the Banjo Jubilee held every Labor Day Weekend and many other trips with his friends from the banjo bands. His daughter Kristin Hansen, her husband Ken and their two children Matthew and Megan survive Eugene. He is also survived by his son Kirk Sandberg and his children Autumn and Ethan. A memorial service for anyone who would like to attend will be held on March 8th at 2pm in the afternoon at the Unity Church of Palo Alto. Address is 3391 Middlefield Road. In keeping with Eugene’s love for education as well as enjoying his grandson’s accomplishments in golf, an academic scholarship in his name has been established through the Junior Golf Association of Northern California. The organization can be viewed at www.jganc.com. This organization awards scholarships to high school students that participate in golf, based on character, community service and the desire to obtain a degree from a 4-year university.
