Barbara Laura Gallagher
Barbara Laura ( Bennett) Gallagher, age 91, of Bethel, passed away of natural causes on March 7, at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. She was the wife of the late John T. (Jack) Gallagher. Barbara was born April 6, 1918 in Bethel daughter of the late James and Lulu ( Wood ) Bennett She was a lifelong resident of Bethel, where she raised a family and worked for 34 years in that town’s public library. She is survived by her sons, Kevin and his wife Joanne of New Fairfield, Patrick and his wife Frances of Kensington, Richard Gallagher of Deatsville, AL; and her daughter-in-law, Marsha Gallagher of Sandy Hook; including many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Jack, she was predeceased by her three sons, John, Mark and Paul, as well as her brother, James “Bud” Bennett, and sister, Norma Hogan. Barbara was an avid reader and gifted pianist, and enjoyed the craft of knitting, which her family members were the warm and happy recipients of over the years. Her special talents and good nature will be dearly missed. Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main St., Danbury on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River Glen HCC Resident Council Fund, 162 South Britain Rd., Southbury, CT 06488, or the Bethel VNA, One School St., Bethel, CT 06801.
