Felicia Elizabeth Dousman
Felicia Elizabeth Dousman 92, of Yuba City, CA, passed away peacefully in Marysville, CA on March 3, 2010. Born October 12, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the fourth child of Stanley and Emilia Dombrowski, and was very proud of her Polish heritage. While working as a secretary for the Dept. of the Army in Washington DC, she met D.J. (Jim) Dousman and they were married in 1941. They drove across the country to Albuquerque, NM, where her first son was born. After Jim was drafted, they moved around the U.S. as the Army transferred him to Riverside, CA, and Spokane, WA, and when Jim went overseas, Felicia moved to Baldwin, NY where her second son was born. In 1948, she and her two young boys journeyed by train and steamship to reunite with Jim in Tokyo, Japan, where she worked for the occupation forces. Moving back to the US three years later, Felicia returned to Baldwin, to raise her two sons while working full-time as an insurance secretary. In 1978, she sold her house and drove alone across the continent to live near both sons who were then in California. On the way, she had a harrowing experience trapped in a blizzard in Wyoming, which became one of her favorite stories to recount in later years. She settled in Hayward, CA for the next 27 years, and made many friends in the SF Bay area. She was an active volunteer at St. Rose’s Hospital. Felicia was an enthusiastic walker and greatly enjoyed group walking activities. In 2005 she moved to Yuba City. An avid reader, she was well known at local libraries, enjoyed her first cell phone at 85, and started to use the Internet at age 91. She is survived by two sons, J. Michael Dousman of Dobbins, CA and Stephen Dousman of Felton, CA; daughters in law, Patricia Dousman, and Linda Dousman; granddaughter Kristine L. Dousman; and four great grandchildren, Travis, Jeffery, Brett and Brooke. Send & Read Condolences at
