CARDENAS-Alfonso “Poncho” Rojas Cardenas, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, July 23 at his home in San Gabriel. Poncho Cardenas was born on March 13, 1917 in the City of San Gabriel to Francisco and Anastacia Cardenas. A lifelong resident of San Gabriel, he is survived by his brother Ernesto, his sisters Erna and Linda -1/2Honey-5/8, his loving wife of seventy years, Mary Cardenas, their five children Jerry, Lucille, Gloria, Mary Ellen and Frank and approximately 125 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and countless other family and friends. May he rest in Eternal Peace with his sisters Libby, Marie, Ramona, Carolina, his brother Frank, and Nana and Tata.

Barbara Brescia Ivey Barbara was born September 21, 1939 in New York City and passed away July 19, 2010 in Long Beach. Hers was a rich life as nurse, mother of two fine sons and wonderful companion to Harry, her husband of 45 years. She graduated as a registered nurse from New Rochelle Hospital in 1960, worked in New York and moved with her retiring parents to Sarasota, Florida continuing her nursing career. She met Harry in 1964. They were married in February 1965 and shortly thereafter moved to El Paso, then to Albuquerque, and ultimately to Fountain Valley, California where they lived for 13 years; then on to Scottsdale for five years, returning to Long Beach in 1984. On the birth of Mike she became a full time mom and continued in this role until both sons were in college. She then returned to nursing and enjoyed supporting Dr. Jeffrey Podlas in Newport Beach helping bring new life into the world until her health problems forced retirement in 1995. Her long battle with cancer began in 1999, ending July 19. Barbara is survived by husband, Harry; sons, Mike and Chris; and five wonderful grandchildren, Shelby, Sydney, Tanner, Delaney and Brendan. Her vibrant personality will be missed by all those who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 8 at the St. Peter’s By-the-Sea Presbyterian Church, 16911 Bolsa Chica Street, Huntington Beach and will be followed by a reception for friends and family at the Long Beach Yacht Club. Surrounded by family, C.R. “Dick” Fedrick passed away at his home on July 26, 2010 after a lengthy illness, he was 84. Born in Lordsburg, NM on October 9, 1925 to Julian Richard Fedrick and Cecilia Elizabeth Jones, C.R. was raised in Lordsburg and graduated from Lordsburg High School. His first job out of high school was working on the construction of the top secret Manhattan Project facility in Los Alamos, NM. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 16 but was removed from the ship prior to sailing when it was discovered he was not old enough to serve. In 1944, he relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area to join his father in the contracting business. He spent the next 60 years building one of the largest heavy construction firms in northern California and developing a reputation for taking on some of the most challenging and difficult projects throughout the U.S. He was the chairman and CEO of C.R. Fedrick, Inc. (Novato, CA) and held the position of Vice Chairman of Sundt Corp (Tucson, AZ). Work was a hobby for C.R., and he continued show up at the office until he was 83 years old. C.R. was a well respected business man and a fierce competitor who welcomed any challenge. In addition to his passion for contracting, he was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time on his ranch with his family, making his home the focal point of large family gatherings and maintaining an open house for anyone who wanted to visit. A true cowboy, C.R. grew up with horses and cattle, and continued that lifestyle raising horses and cattle until his passing. In his later years, he developed his own vineyard to participate in the growing wine industry. Although he grew and managed a diversified portfolio of business interests, C.R. will always be remembered as a very loyal and generous person. C.R. was associated with Lloyds of London, a long time member of the Sonoma County Trail Blazers, the Elks, Beavers, and numerous hunting clubs. C.R. was preceded in death by his first wife Alter Louise Yates. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shirley F. Fedrick; children Rick (Candy) Fedrick, Ron (Kristy) Fedrick, Lisa (Jeff) Ebbesen, Robert “Bubba” Fedrick, Troy West, Todd (Karmen) West; affectionately known as “Papa” to his 20 Grandchildren and “Great Papa” to his 20 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Joseph (Martha) Fedrick and James (Carolyn) Fedrick. Viewing will held at the family residence on Saturday July 31st from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday August 1st from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and scripture at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 1st. Services will be held on Monday, August 2nd, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, 1806 Novato Blvd, Novato, CA. Reception immediately following services.
